Colorado Ecoregions (BIOL 444)

Colorado Ecoregions (BIOL 444)

Western Colorado University will be offering Colorado Ecoregions (BIOL 444) this August (as a fall class) from 12-23 August.  It’s super fun and a great adventure learning opportunity.  Ecology is a pre-requisite but instructor can be flexible, especially if students have had BIOL 151 or BIOL 130.  The class will be exploring the eastern plains of Colorado and the Comanche National Grasslands – lots to see there including large prairie dog colonies with burrowing owls, playa lakes, the largest continuous set of dinosaur tracks in North America, and lots of great wildlife in the shortgrass prairie ecoregion. The class will also explore aspects of the cultural history of Colorado’s plains, the gateway to the West!  The class will backpack into the Southern Rocky Mountains and learn about forest life zones and life above the trees in the alpine where some of Colorado’s most unique wildlife and wildflowers exist.  The class will raft through Ruby and Horsethief Canyons on the Colorado River and explore the desert and canyonlands of the Colorado Plateau.  Collared lizards, scorpions, desert xerophytes and much more lurk in these wildlands.

Applications start March 25th!
