Begich, Boggs Visitor Center located in the beautifully remote Portage Valley in Alaska is NOW HIRING!
Are currently looking to hire 8 additional permanent seasonal staff to support their interpretive programs at the site and alongside, several partnerships.
The Visitor Center is open from late May to early September offering local information to over 500,000 visitors through pop-up and campfire programs, tours on boats and trains, and outreach in our regional communities. We are centrally located in the Chugach National Forest, the second largest national forest in the U.S., and offer housing to our permanent employees.
This opportunity is a great start for those interested in working in federal land management who want to develop their skills in public speaking, conservation and environmental stewardship advocacy, and public engagement. Employees who work with them often go into formal education roles, research programs, or move into other departments within the Forest Service – like public affairs or administrative work – after a few years.
The jobs will post nationally at the end of October and interviews are typically offered around December. The position itself runs from early to mid April until the end of October and is a GS-05 level with Alaska Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA). Many people in the area find working at the local ski resort as a great seasonal alternative to Forest Service work, and the housing is frequently offered during non-pay status.
